What is LASIK?
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is the world’s most widely performed laser vision correction procedure. It permanently reshapes the cornea using an excimer laser, correcting refractive errors so light focuses precisely on the retina. Most patients achieve 6/6 (20/20) vision or better.
Who is LASIK for?
- You are 18 years or older with a stable spectacle power for at least 1 year
- You have hyperopia (far-sightedness) up to +5 D
- Your corneal thickness is adequate
- You have myopia (short-sightedness) up to -10 D
- You have astigmatism (cylindrical power) up to 5 D
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
Conditions Treated by LASIK
Myopia
Blurry distance vision
Hyperopia
Blurry near vision
Astigmatism
Blurry vision at all distances

Am I a Suitable Candidate for LASIK?
We invest in a thorough pre-LASIK evaluation before any recommendation.
You may be suitable if:
- 18+ years with stable power for 1 year
- Adequate corneal thickness
- No active eye disease
- Not pregnant or breastfeeding
You may NOT be suitable if:
- Corneal thickness below safe threshold
- Keratoconus or irregular cornea
- Unstable spectacle power
- Severe dry eye syndrome
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
Note: Unsuitability for standard LASIK does NOT mean you cannot have laser vision correction. We offer alternatives such as Contoura, SMILE, PRK, or ICL.

Your LASIK Journey at Tewari Eye Centre
Frequently asked questions on cataract surgery
You are likely a good candidate if you are 18+ years old, have a stable spectacle power for at least 1 year, and your corneal thickness and topography are within safe parameters. A comprehensive pre-LASIK evaluation at Tewari Eye Centre will give you a definitive answer.
LASIK cost depends on the procedure selected — standard LASIK, blade-free LASIK, Contoura Vision, or SMILE. Please contact our counsellors for a personalised estimate. We ensure complete transparency no hidden charges.
No. Anaesthetic eye drops are administered before the procedure, making it completely painless. Some patients feel mild pressure for a few seconds. Most describe the experience as surprisingly quick and comfortable.
The laser treatment itself takes 20-90 seconds per eye. Total time in the operating room is approximately 10-15 minutes for both eyes. You will be at our centre for about 2-3 hours on surgery day.
Most patients see clearly within 24-48 hours. You can return to desk work within 1-2 days. Driving, swimming, and contact sports should be avoided for 1-2 weeks. Full stabilisation occurs over 1-3 months.
Standard LASIK corrects your spectacle power. Contoura Vision additionally maps and corrects over 22,000 unique data points on your cornea, treating higher-order aberrations that cause glare, halos, and reduced night vision.
SMILE is a flapless laser procedure. No corneal flap is created — instead, a small lenticule is removed through a tiny keyhole incision. SMILE has the lowest risk of dry eye and is preferred for active lifestyles.
LASIK permanently reshapes the cornea. The effect is lifelong. However, if your spectacle power was not fully stable before the procedure, minor regression is possible. This is why we insist on stable refraction for at least 1 year.
Mild-to-moderate dry eye can often be managed before LASIK with treatment. Severe dry eye may make you unsuitable, but SMILE (which preserves more corneal nerves) is often a good alternative.
